Origins of Roulette and Similarities to Bingo
Posted By Diego | Bingo-Tricks News | July 20, 2011, 03:23 AM |
The origins of Roulette, a popular game of chance mostly featured on casinos, remains uncertain. There are many varieties but it seems that Roulette is considered of French origin. The word “Roulette” comes from the French word meaning little wheel. The game itself was believed to be a combination of early English and Italian gambling games.
Blaise Pascal, a French mathematician in the 17th century, was said to have invented the first game of Roulette. However, some sources claim that the game was brought to Europe when early Dominican monks discovered the game while trading with the Chinese.
The first modern version of the Roulette wheel was introduced by François and Louis Blanc when they re-invented the “0” roulette game in the year 1843. Today's modern Roulettes are made of a ball spinning on a wooden wheel with each row representing different numbers. The representations can be odd or even and have the colors of black and red.
Prince Charles of Monaco made the Roulette popular to his constituents in the late 18th century by proposing gambling as a means to alleviate the region's financial shortcomings. During the same period, the game extended its popularity in Europe and finally to the United States.
